Authority guide · Bathroom Remodels
Bathrooms are the highest-failure room in a PNW home — moisture, tile, and drainage are unforgiving. Every Advanced Remodeling bathroom is waterproofed to Schluter/Kerdi standard, tiled by our in-house tile crew, and installed under one licensed WA general contractor with a workmanship warranty on everything we install.
Waterproofing is the whole job
A beautiful bathroom that leaks is a $30k mistake. We waterproof every wet zone with Schluter/Kerdi or equivalent sheet membrane — never cement board and thinset alone. Curbs, benches, and niches are pre-formed and bonded. Every shower gets a flood test before tile goes down.
Tub-to-shower conversions and walk-ins
Most PNW homeowners want the tub out. Curbless walk-in showers require a lowered subfloor and linear drain, but the result is barrier-free, safer, and dramatically bigger visually. Where a curb is fine, we build a tiled bench, niche, and glass panel to match. Every conversion goes through code — proper trap, vent, and drainage sizing.
Vanities, storage, and lighting
Bathrooms live or die on storage. We spec custom vanities with drawers (not shelves), medicine cabinets recessed into the wall, and linen towers where the layout allows. Vanity lighting is layered — sconces at face height, ceiling wash, and dimmable LED — so it works morning, evening, and for makeup.
Ventilation and code
WA code requires a bath fan vented to exterior on a dedicated switch or humidity sensor. We install Panasonic WhisperGreen or equivalent, ducted rigid pipe to a wall or roof cap. Skipping ventilation is the #1 cause of tile grout failure, paint peel, and mold callbacks — we won't do it.

Quick answers
Straight answers before you call
The questions we get most often on discovery calls — answered in plain English, with numbers, before you spend an hour on the phone.
How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Washington?
Half-bath refreshes start around $12,000–$22,000. Full hall or guest baths with a new tub/shower, vanity, tile, and fixtures typically run $22,000–$45,000. Primary/en-suite remodels with a walk-in tile shower, freestanding tub, and custom vanity are usually $45,000–$90,000. All quotes are fixed-price, written line-item.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
Guest baths take 3–4 weeks on site; primary baths with tiled walk-in showers run 4–6 weeks. Waterproofing (Schluter/Kerdi) and tile set up on their own cure schedule, so we sequence trades tightly and never cut corners on membrane, backer, or slope.
Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel?
Yes for anything that moves plumbing lines, adds circuits, or converts a tub to a walk-in shower with new drain location. Straight replacements of a toilet, vanity, or shower valve in the same location generally do not. We pull permits and schedule inspections as part of the project fee.
Tub-to-shower conversion: worth it?
In most PNW homes, yes — especially in primary baths where the tub sits unused. A tiled walk-in shower with a linear drain and glass panel adds daily usability and resale appeal. If the home only has one tub (families with kids, resale in family neighborhoods), keep at least one tub somewhere in the house.

Remodel Answers
People also ask about bathroom remodel
Real questions from the greater PNW homeowners — answered by a licensed WA contractor.
Electrical · Light Fixtures
Can a remodel install a light fixture in Washington State?
In Washington, only licensed electrical contractors and certified electricians may perform electrical work for hire — including swapping a light fixture. A remodel without an electrical specialty license legally cannot. Advanced Remodeling coordinates a licensed electrician for any hardwired work.
Plumbing · Leaks & Water Damage
How do I find a hidden water leak in my house?
Turn off every fixture and appliance, then watch the small red "leak indicator" dial on your water meter for 10–15 minutes. If it moves, you have flow somewhere with everything off — that's a leak. Isolate by shutting off the main to the house and the water heater; the meter tells you if it's on the incoming side or inside.
Doors & Windows · Locks & Hardware
How do I fix a door that won't latch properly?
A door that won't latch either has a strike plate that's out of alignment (most common) or the door itself has sagged. Close the door slowly and mark where the latch hits the strike — if it's above or below the hole, either move the strike plate or shim the top hinge to lift the latch side back into place.
Exterior & Weatherproofing · Gutters & Downspouts
How often should I clean gutters in the Pacific Northwest?
Twice a year minimum — once in late fall after the leaves drop (mid-November) and once in spring (late March). Homes surrounded by Douglas fir, cedar, or big-leaf maple need a third mid-fall cleaning, typically late October. Skipping cleanings is the #1 cause of preventable siding and foundation damage we see.
Interior Repairs · Drywall
How do I fix a drywall hole around a ceiling fixture?
For a hole smaller than the new fixture's canopy, no repair needed — the canopy covers it. For larger holes, cut a clean square around the damage, screw in a wood backer strip, patch with a drywall piece, tape the seams, and mud and sand in two coats. Ceilings need extra care because texture matching is the hardest part of the job.
Appliances & Fixtures · Dishwasher & Disposal
Can a remodel install a dishwasher in Washington?
Yes — a remodel can install a like-for-like dishwasher replacement: pull the old unit, disconnect the water supply and drain, slide the new unit in, and reconnect. What we can't do without a licensed electrician: hardwire a new circuit or upgrade the receptacle. Almost all replacements reuse the existing power connection, so this rarely comes up.
Bathroom Remodel FAQs
How long is a bathroom remodel?
A standard hall bath is 3–4 weeks of construction after design is locked. A primary bath with a curbless shower and custom tile is typically 5–7 weeks. Every timeline is committed in writing on the contract, with milestone dates.
Should I convert my tub to a walk-in shower?
If it's your only tub and you have kids or plan to sell to a family, keep one tub in the house. Otherwise, a walk-in — especially curbless — reads bigger, resells well in the PNW, and is safer to age in. We'll walk your floor plan and give a straight answer at consultation.
What about mold and moisture in Pacific Northwest bathrooms?
PNW humidity + poor ventilation is the #1 cause of bathroom failure. We install code-required exhaust ducted to exterior, waterproof under every tile, and use mold-resistant drywall (green board is minimum; we prefer purple board or cement board in wet zones).
How much does bathroom remodel cost?
Every bathroom remodel project is priced with a written, line-item estimate — labor, materials, permits, and disposal broken out. Fixed price locked in a signed contract. Ranges depend on scope, materials, and finish level; consultations are free.
Do I need a design consultation first?
For anything beyond a straightforward install we start with a free onsite consultation. We walk your home, discuss scope and materials, and prepare a written estimate you can decide on with no obligation.
How do you handle change orders?
Any change to scope, materials, or finishes is documented in a written change order signed by both parties before that work proceeds. You always know the price before we start.
What areas do you cover for this?
From Marysville down through Snohomish County, across the Eastside to Bellevue, and over to Seattle — including Marysville, Everett, Mukilteo, Mill Creek, Lynnwood, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Shoreline, Bothell, Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, Mercer Island, and Seattle. See the Service Areas page for the full list.
Is bathroom remodel covered by your warranty?
Yes. We back all workmanship for 12 months on projects we perform directly. Materials and appliances are covered by their manufacturer warranty.

"JJ, Dominick, Erik, Jayson, Marco and the entire crew at Advanced did an amazing job with our basement, bath, laundry room remodel after a basement flooding issue. Would hire them again and recommend them highly."
"We chose Dominic and his crew to help rebuild our kitchen after a water leak. Dominic is knowledgeable, highly communicative, and patient/willing to answer lots of questions. The bid he provided was clear and competitive and he made sure to have an independent auditor review it to support our insurance claim. His team did a great job rebuilding and refinishing our hardwood floors, repairing drywall, and reinstalling our cabinets/dishwasher. Overall communication with the workers was good and the one time that there were some challenges, Dominic jumped on the issue right away and met with the team to make sure something similar wouldn't happen in the future. They will be the first number I call next time I need a general contractor."
"I’m really glad I chose to work with Dominik and his team! I had unstable tiles on the back wall of my shower from a poor previous installation. I came in with a lot of concerns (and a budget), and Dominik genuinely listened and worked with me instead of pushing a full remodel. What stood out to me: - Dominik created a thoughtful 3-step quote that gave me options instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all solution, which no other contractor offered - Erik handled most of the work and was clear, responsive, and easy to communicate with - He was able to save and reuse many of my original tiles, which meant a lot to me since they’re no longer sold and I really didn’t want mismatched tiles - Erik even helped install my bathroom window screen, totally above and beyond! And something I didn’t expect at all... They had someone come in to clean not just the shower, but my entire bathroom. It was spotless. Overall, the whole process felt smooth and really well thought out. You can tell they care about both the quality of their work and their clients. Would definitely recommend Advanced Remodeling LLC :)"
"We couldn’t be happier with the work these guys did for us! They created a truly life-like playhouse for our girls, and the final design was even better than the inspiration photos we shared. The attention to detail was incredible, and you can tell a lot of care went into every part of the build. The crew was extremely nice, professional, and respectful of our space throughout the entire process. Highly recommend them!"
"We are so glad that we chose to work with the team at Advanced Remodeling for our recent remodel of two bathrooms and a laundry room. There are so many positives to highlight: - They listened to our ideas and hopes while bringing their own thoughts based on their experience. They were then able to translate that into outcomes that were even better than we could have hoped! - They were great problem-solvers and were fair and honest in their advice; we never felt taken advantage of and appreciated their advice. - They honored the budget we established and did amazing work within that. No corners were cut and the work is of the highest quality. - Our remodel was a little tricky, with us wanting to find a way to utilize the space under our stairs more effectively. They did the most incredible job bringing that to life. We now have a great space (with lighting!) to store things. - Their communication was great, with questions answered in a most timely fashion and a willingness to talk through plans and ideas. The couple of small glitches along the way were rectified immediately. Finally, they were just great, friendly guys to work with. Erik, our site manager, is hardworking, thoughtful, and willing to do what it takes to make the customer happy. Everyone we worked with was very talented and a good human to boot. We would absolutely work with them again!"
