Authority guide · Kitchen Remodels
A kitchen remodel is the single highest-impact project in a PNW home — it changes how you cook, entertain, and value the house. Every Advanced Remodeling kitchen is designed, priced line-item, and installed by our in-house crew under one licensed WA general contractor. No sub-out chaos, no hourly billing, no surprises.
Layout first, finishes second
Most kitchens fail on layout, not on finishes. We start with a free in-home design consultation — measurements, appliance list, traffic flow, and how you actually cook. From there we produce a scaled plan showing cabinet runs, island size, appliance clearances, and lighting circuits before you pick a single color.
Cabinets are the budget
Cabinets are 35–50% of a typical kitchen remodel. We build in shaker, slab, and inset styles in maple, oak, walnut, and painted MDF. Every cabinet is scribed to the wall, soft-close, and warrantied. If your existing boxes are solid, cabinet refacing and sprayed refinishing cut cost by 40–60% without losing the fresh look.
Countertops and tile done once
Quartz, quartzite, granite, and natural stone — templated with a laser after cabinets are set, fabricated locally, and installed with mitered edges where you want the thick look without the price. Backsplashes are set on cement board with proper waterproofing at wet zones — we never tile over drywall behind a range or sink.
Electrical, plumbing, and code
Kitchens trigger code upgrades most homeowners never see coming: dedicated 20A small-appliance circuits, GFCI/AFCI protection, dishwasher air gap (WA plumbing code), range hood venting to exterior, and disposal wiring. We pull permits where required and our licensed electricians and plumbers handle every rough-in.

The questions we get most often on discovery calls — answered in plain English, with numbers, before you spend an hour on the phone.
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Washington?
Most kitchen remodels in the greater Seattle / PNW area run $45,000–$95,000 for a pull-and-replace with new cabinets, quartz countertops, tile, and appliances. Full gut renovations with layout changes, structural work, or high-end finishes typically fall between $95,000 and $180,000. Every Advanced Remodeling estimate is a written, line-item fixed price — labor, materials, permits, and disposal broken out — locked in a signed contract.
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
A typical kitchen remodel takes 6–10 weeks on site once demo starts. Cabinet lead times are the long pole (4–8 weeks) so we order early and stage materials before demo — that keeps the family off Chinet plates as short as possible. Layout changes that touch plumbing, gas, or load-bearing walls add 1–2 weeks.
Do I need a permit to remodel my kitchen in WA?
Cosmetic swaps (cabinets, countertops, tile, appliances in place) usually do not require a permit. You do need a permit any time we move electrical circuits, relocate plumbing, remove a wall, or add a range hood duct. As a licensed WA general contractor (ADVANRL813RC, bonded, $2M insured), we pull every required permit and coordinate inspections.
What is the best kitchen remodel ROI in Seattle?
In the Puget Sound market the strongest ROI comes from mid-range remodels: shaker cabinets, quartz counters, updated lighting, and a modern island. Cost-vs-value data for the Seattle metro shows 65–80% recovery on a mid-range kitchen and higher perceived value when the layout is opened to an adjacent dining or living room.

Remodel Answers
People also ask about kitchen remodel
Real questions from the greater PNW homeowners — answered by a licensed WA contractor.
Electrical · Light Fixtures
Can a remodel install a light fixture in Washington State?
In Washington, only licensed electrical contractors and certified electricians may perform electrical work for hire — including swapping a light fixture. A remodel without an electrical specialty license legally cannot. Advanced Remodeling coordinates a licensed electrician for any hardwired work.
Plumbing · Leaks & Water Damage
How do I find a hidden water leak in my house?
Turn off every fixture and appliance, then watch the small red "leak indicator" dial on your water meter for 10–15 minutes. If it moves, you have flow somewhere with everything off — that's a leak. Isolate by shutting off the main to the house and the water heater; the meter tells you if it's on the incoming side or inside.
Doors & Windows · Locks & Hardware
How do I fix a door that won't latch properly?
A door that won't latch either has a strike plate that's out of alignment (most common) or the door itself has sagged. Close the door slowly and mark where the latch hits the strike — if it's above or below the hole, either move the strike plate or shim the top hinge to lift the latch side back into place.
Exterior & Weatherproofing · Gutters & Downspouts
How often should I clean gutters in the Pacific Northwest?
Twice a year minimum — once in late fall after the leaves drop (mid-November) and once in spring (late March). Homes surrounded by Douglas fir, cedar, or big-leaf maple need a third mid-fall cleaning, typically late October. Skipping cleanings is the #1 cause of preventable siding and foundation damage we see.
Interior Repairs · Drywall
How do I fix a drywall hole around a ceiling fixture?
For a hole smaller than the new fixture's canopy, no repair needed — the canopy covers it. For larger holes, cut a clean square around the damage, screw in a wood backer strip, patch with a drywall piece, tape the seams, and mud and sand in two coats. Ceilings need extra care because texture matching is the hardest part of the job.
Appliances & Fixtures · Dishwasher & Disposal
Can a remodel install a dishwasher in Washington?
Yes — a remodel can install a like-for-like dishwasher replacement: pull the old unit, disconnect the water supply and drain, slide the new unit in, and reconnect. What we can't do without a licensed electrician: hardwire a new circuit or upgrade the receptacle. Almost all replacements reuse the existing power connection, so this rarely comes up.
Kitchen Remodel FAQs
How long is a kitchen remodel actually offline?
For a standard remodel, expect 4–6 weeks of construction after design is locked. We set up a temporary kitchen in another room (fridge, microwave, coffee) and confirm the exact offline window in your written contract.
Do I need permits for a kitchen remodel in WA?
Cabinet swaps and finish work usually don't require a permit. Anything touching electrical circuits, plumbing lines, gas, or structural walls does. We pull every required permit under our WA contractor registration (ADVANRL813RC) and coordinate inspections.
Can I keep my existing appliances?
Yes — we design around your appliance list. Bringing appliances forward drops the budget noticeably. If you want to upgrade, we'll spec panel-ready and integrated units before cabinet drawings so the openings are right.
How much does kitchen remodel cost?
Every kitchen remodel project is priced with a written, line-item estimate — labor, materials, permits, and disposal broken out. Fixed price locked in a signed contract. Ranges depend on scope, materials, and finish level; consultations are free.
Do I need a design consultation first?
For anything beyond a straightforward install we start with a free onsite consultation. We walk your home, discuss scope and materials, and prepare a written estimate you can decide on with no obligation.
How do you handle change orders?
Any change to scope, materials, or finishes is documented in a written change order signed by both parties before that work proceeds. You always know the price before we start.
What areas do you cover for this?
From Marysville down through Snohomish County, across the Eastside to Bellevue, and over to Seattle — including Marysville, Everett, Mukilteo, Mill Creek, Lynnwood, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Shoreline, Bothell, Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, Mercer Island, and Seattle. See the Service Areas page for the full list.
Is kitchen remodel covered by your warranty?
Yes. We back all workmanship for 12 months on projects we perform directly. Materials and appliances are covered by their manufacturer warranty.

"JJ, Dominick, Erik, Jayson, Marco and the entire crew at Advanced did an amazing job with our basement, bath, laundry room remodel after a basement flooding issue. Would hire them again and recommend them highly."
"We chose Dominic and his crew to help rebuild our kitchen after a water leak. Dominic is knowledgeable, highly communicative, and patient/willing to answer lots of questions. The bid he provided was clear and competitive and he made sure to have an independent auditor review it to support our insurance claim. His team did a great job rebuilding and refinishing our hardwood floors, repairing drywall, and reinstalling our cabinets/dishwasher. Overall communication with the workers was good and the one time that there were some challenges, Dominic jumped on the issue right away and met with the team to make sure something similar wouldn't happen in the future. They will be the first number I call next time I need a general contractor."
"I’m really glad I chose to work with Dominik and his team! I had unstable tiles on the back wall of my shower from a poor previous installation. I came in with a lot of concerns (and a budget), and Dominik genuinely listened and worked with me instead of pushing a full remodel. What stood out to me: - Dominik created a thoughtful 3-step quote that gave me options instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all solution, which no other contractor offered - Erik handled most of the work and was clear, responsive, and easy to communicate with - He was able to save and reuse many of my original tiles, which meant a lot to me since they’re no longer sold and I really didn’t want mismatched tiles - Erik even helped install my bathroom window screen, totally above and beyond! And something I didn’t expect at all... They had someone come in to clean not just the shower, but my entire bathroom. It was spotless. Overall, the whole process felt smooth and really well thought out. You can tell they care about both the quality of their work and their clients. Would definitely recommend Advanced Remodeling LLC :)"
"We couldn’t be happier with the work these guys did for us! They created a truly life-like playhouse for our girls, and the final design was even better than the inspiration photos we shared. The attention to detail was incredible, and you can tell a lot of care went into every part of the build. The crew was extremely nice, professional, and respectful of our space throughout the entire process. Highly recommend them!"
"We are so glad that we chose to work with the team at Advanced Remodeling for our recent remodel of two bathrooms and a laundry room. There are so many positives to highlight: - They listened to our ideas and hopes while bringing their own thoughts based on their experience. They were then able to translate that into outcomes that were even better than we could have hoped! - They were great problem-solvers and were fair and honest in their advice; we never felt taken advantage of and appreciated their advice. - They honored the budget we established and did amazing work within that. No corners were cut and the work is of the highest quality. - Our remodel was a little tricky, with us wanting to find a way to utilize the space under our stairs more effectively. They did the most incredible job bringing that to life. We now have a great space (with lighting!) to store things. - Their communication was great, with questions answered in a most timely fashion and a willingness to talk through plans and ideas. The couple of small glitches along the way were rectified immediately. Finally, they were just great, friendly guys to work with. Erik, our site manager, is hardworking, thoughtful, and willing to do what it takes to make the customer happy. Everyone we worked with was very talented and a good human to boot. We would absolutely work with them again!"
